When it comes to stupendous, slippery, multi-orgasmic sex, wetter is always better. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the shower, in the sack, or in the wild; you don’t want to leave this to chance.
Your body’s natural lubricants are lovely, but not always as plentiful as you might desire. Taking birth control pills or other medications can lessen your body’s ability to produce the lubrication you need, and even if you are a juice-making machine, having a great lube at hand will bring you peace of mind if you’re a little stressed, or if you end up getting into a marathon sex session.
Going into a drugstore and standing in front of the lube section can be intimidating if you aren’t used to all the choices. Here’s a simple way to make sense of the variety of lubrications that are available.
Basic Lube Guide
Water-based: This one is always safe to use with condoms and it won’t stain your sheets like some other formulations can. Water-based lubricants are easiest to wash off, as well. You can get them in lots of flavors, but look for one without glycerin, which has sugars that can feed yeast and bother women who are prone to yeast infections.
Oil- and Petroleum-Based: Oil is fabulous for a full-body massage, but less good for masturbation or intercourse. If you do use an oil- or petroleum-based lubricant for either of these purposes, be aware that they’re only going to give you good slip and slide for a few minutes and you will need to replenish regularly if you’re going to be going longer than that. In addition, oil- and petroleum-based lubes can cause latex condoms to deteriorate, so be aware!
Silicone-based: These are my favorite lubes because they are the most slippery and long-lasting. They don’t have water in them, which means they won’t dry up or evaporate during use. They also are not absorbed into the skin, so you might need some soap and water to get it cleaned up well. They can be a little more expensive, but you don’t need nearly as much of a silicone-based lube as you will of a different kind. You can find them in flavored and warming varieties.
You may need to experiment several varieties before you find one you really love. I can just hear what you’re going to tell him: “Excuse me Honey, I need to go try out this new lube to see if it makes me so slippery and hot I have multiple orgasms. Can you get dinner cleaned up and meet me in the bedroom?” Hah!
Once you have your lube, keep it near your bed for quick access. To use, squeeze a coin-sized dollop into one hand, then rub your hands together to warm it up. Ladies and Gentlemen, playtime has arrived!
